10 Unique Ways to Volunteer

Volunteering has so many impactful benefits to not only your community but even yourself. Many people may want to make a difference in your community, but don’t know where to start. It’s important to know where to begin or what options you have to make a difference.

Fortunately, there are plenty of unique ways for you to get involved and start making a difference. Here are ten unique ways to volunteer in your community.

#1. Assist a School

Most schools are looking for any help that they can get. There’s always something for someone to help with, whether you prefer working with adults or with children. You can run the snack stand at an event, collect tickets at a sporting event, or volunteer in the copy room printing assignments for the teachers so they’re not having to miss their lunch breaks.

If you’d like to assist the children, you can volunteer as a recess monitor, tutor students and provide one-on-one learning in the classroom, and much more! Volunteering at a school is a wonderful way to directly impact the young minds who are the future of your community.

#2. Clean up the Environment

Beautify and upkeep your community’s parks, roads, and neighborhoods! Not only is garbage an eyesore, but it is also horrible for the environment. Get a group of friends together and collect trash in your local parks and roads.

Challenge yourselves to see how much you can gather at the end of your day and make a game of it. You can also plant trees to benefit the environment and give everyone something beautiful to look admire.

#3. Visit the Elderly

Chances are there are several nursing homes and senior centers in your area that would love some volunteers to bring joy to their senior residents. Whether you help set up an event, bring in baked treats, read books, or simply spend time with the residents, the facility will surely be grateful for your assistance.

#4. Donate Unwanted Items

Is it time to clean out your closet again? Maybe you’re struggling with clutter in your home, but don’t have storage space for all these extra things you don’t use anymore. Rather than throwing everything out or letting the clutter grow, consider donating your gently used items to a local thrift store or shelter to give to those in need.

#5. Assist a Hospital

Fortunately, you don’t need any medical experience to volunteer at a hospital. If you have any talents, you can entertain the patients and families that are stuck in the hospital during a stressful time to help ease the tension of their situation. You can also deliver meals to patients' rooms, handle therapy dogs, provide care packages, and more.

#6. Start a Little Free Library

A Little Free Library can easily be DIY’d right in your neighborhood or local park. It is a miniature library that resembles a mailbox or birdhouse where members of the community give and take books, media, and art for all ages. This is a great choice if you don’t have the availability to go out and volunteer all the time, but still want to make a long-lasting impact on your community.

#7. Organize a Fundraiser

We can’t always open our wallets to donate to our favorite organizations, no matter how much we may want to. So, the next best choice would be to organize a fundraiser to collect donations from others in your community who may be able to. This is a great way to educate others on the cause and the organization you are most passionate about.

#8. Join a Summer Camp

If you like to have fun and want to help educate the future generation while doing it, a summer camp is a great choice! Participate in activities like watersports, building campfires, and playing games all while making a difference for the campers.

#9. Build a Home

There are great organizations out there dedicated to building homes for those in need. They can use all the help they can get to provide something as vital as shelter and a home to others. You don’t need a background in construction either, so come as you are. The extra hands are always welcome!

#10. Package Meals

End world hunger one meal at a time and help package free meals for local organizations, schools, or churches. You may even pack your own meals and pass them out to the homeless if you’d prefer.

Volunteer Your Way, Juzt Because

There are so many ways you can make an impact no matter who you are, what your capabilities are, or what you’re interested in. Now is the time to think of what you’re most passionate about and get excited to make a change!
